John McCain’s health — an image is concocted

In a carefully choreographed event designed to carefully control the message, John McCain’s health records were “released” to about 20 reporters, who could view (but not copy) approximately 1200 pages of documents for a three hour time period. None of the reporters were doctors, nor were they allowed to speak to doctors via cell phones.

Mark me down as not convinced about what headline writers wrote: “McCain deemed in good health by doctors”. In fact, for a guy who likes to be called the “Straight Talk Express”, he sure acted like he was hiding something. But like most Rethuglicans, every bit of campaigning is about image, not substance.

In another example that McCain is truly the “Double Talk Express”, Tom Hilton notes the McCain rules of political discourse:

Acceptable:
I think it's very clear who Hamas wants to be the next president of the United States.

Unacceptable:
There are many issues that lend themselves to partisan posturing, but giving our veterans the chance to go to college should not be one of them.

Terrible Errors in Video Directing

How’s this for a huge error? In the video of “Cheap Seats” by the country band Alabama, about 2:20 into the video, we see a runner slide into home plate, apparently coming from first base. What were they thinking?

Web Roundup

We can build a wall to keep out immigrants for $460 million, but we can’t keep bridges from falling down, we cut budgets for schools and hospitals, and we cut benefits for veterans.

The GOP continues their war on Democrats voting. But Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D) vetoes a bill that would prevent some Kansans from voting.

Obama meets a Muslim imam in Detroit. Right-wingers go nuts. But they “forget” to mention that the news articles about Obama’s meeting also said the imam had met with Bush several times.

Conservatives continue their “block-and-blame” strategy, instead of actually listening to the American people and implementing the policies that Americans seem to want.

Who’s on First?

I have probably listened to Abbott and Costello’s brilliant comedy classic “Who’s on First” a zillion times, and it still brings a huge smile to my face. It was awarded the title “Routine of the Millenium” by Time Magazine.
